It’s the painting that’s stolen from the Grand Palais in the novel The French Art of Revenge, leading to a police dragnet, secret romantic intrigues and a mad chase across Paris.

These two fashion icons play a pivotal role in The French Art of Revenge. When Yves Saint Laurent passed away, his longtime lover and business partner Pierre Berge auctioned off their $500M private art collection for charity. Among the masterpieces was James Ensor’s painting The Death of Pierrot. In the novel, this painting mysteriously disappears from the Grand Palais exhibition hall, and all the clues point toward one possible thief, the novel’s main character, Luke!
